Glossary – Bring Home The Beacon
This page collects key terms, technologies, and concepts referenced in the campaign.
Anomalies and Entities
DISCO An advanced, time-jumping machine that previously possessed air transport capabilities. It has returned from the deep past and is now transmitting a repeating message requesting a technician, negotiator, and extraction team. Possibly merged with LUCA. Considered critical to restoring time travel.
LUCA A biological entity recovered by DISCO. It has traveled into the mid-Carboniferous era and returned. Its current form may be evolved or merged with DISCO.
Hex 42 A lost and unconfirmed facility where the original DISCO message was transcribed seven years ago. Believed to have hosted a secret SATI project.
Materials
Halfium A rare substance with an atomic weight of approximately 1.5. It is theorized to enable modification of physical matter and is essential to time travel and advanced technology.
Organizations
SATI (Space and Time, Interglobal) The organization responsible for the original Commute back to the Cretaceous. Still active through remnants and agents. Enforces loyalty using lethal nanotech lozenges.
Technology
Wielectrics A form of wireless energy transmission, used to power and communicate with technology across distances. Enables the use of devices like thought caps and long-range implants.
Beacon Listening Device A device held by the party that receives the repeating signal from DISCO. Essential for tracking the machine’s location and status.
Locations
Camp Setawan An operational base located south of the Cinder Ocean near “The Boot.” Used by SATI for staging deep expeditions.
The Boot An unexplored southern region that lies beyond the party’s current maps. DISCO is believed to be located somewhere within this area.
Cinder Ocean A geographic landmark that separates the party from southern expedition zones. Aerial predators make sea travel dangerous.
Protocols
SATI Lozenge Contract A binding contract enforced via ingestible nanotech. Violating the contract (such as betraying SATI) results in organ failure. All party members are affected if one breaks the pact.
Characters
Lomaton A long-lived SATI agent who has "gone native." Known for training dinosaurs and testing implants.
Terms will be added as new concepts and technologies emerge during the campaign.
