Predation: Bring Home The Beacon
Location
- Heartsong Refuge in Lower Larmidia
Summary
Dr. Jurita Abrashi, a SATI scientist, is researching a time anomaly from the last commute. Though the original site was destroyed, a **subsurface anomaly** allows him to "see but not touch" critical data and processes. He encoded these into memory and intends to share them with the team—**but only under strict confidence**.
To ensure secrecy, **each party member was required to ingest a SATI-engineered lozenge**:
- These lozenges enforce a **deadly contractual agreement**—if any member attempts to betray SATI, it will trigger **organ failure**.
- This binding agreement applies collectively—**if one betrays SATI, all are affected**.
Party Roster
- Syd plays Marcus Camus – A techno-shamanic **Osteon** with a recording **ocular implant** that intermittently transmits imagery back to SATI. Distrusts dinosaur dependency and yearns for a technological underground.
- Keybounce plays Dr. Holly Marshal – A field researcher and tech with a loyal **Triceratops companion named Spot**.
- Blurwake plays Patrocles – A dynamic character partnered with a **Mega Raptor named Taloes**. Recently had a new implant tested by Lomaton.
Hex 42
- Location cannot be confirmed.
- Message transcription occurred **seven years ago**.
- The facility was a **secret project site**.
- Dr. Abrashi introduces the party to the legacy of **DISCO**, a key to restoring time travel.
DISCO
- “DISCO is the key to getting back to the 24th century.”
- “DISCO is not dead.”
- The party now holds a **beacon listening device** which allows them to monitor the repeated signal.
- The beacon is actively receiving the **distress message**, which is being transmitted over and over.
- DISCO is requesting:
- A **negotiator** - A **technician** - An **extraction team**
DISCO’s Fate
- Originally possessed **air transport** capability—now lost.
- A **time jump** led to its return at the wrong coordinates due to **continental drift**.
- It previously recovered **LUCA**, went back to the **Mid-Carboniferous**, and is now back but **vulnerable**, without shielding.
- If recovered, DISCO provides:
- Time travel core tech - LUCA - Pathway back to the **24.5th century**
Consciousness & Evolution
- DISCO is **sapient but not sentient** (or possibly vice versa).
- Claims to have fulfilled its directive.
- May have **merged with LUCA**, which appears to have evolved.
- pop culture reference::V'Ger
Ancient Presence
- In the **future**, humanity fled into oceans due to an **invasion**.
- **Sub-oceanic settlements** were built using discovered alien tech.
- Tech and fossils suggest:
- **Aliens coexisted with dinosaurs** - **Alien technology enabled time travel** - **LUCA was sent back** further than the invasion, possibly avoiding alien detection
Current Goals
- Retrieve **time travel core**
- Secure **LUCA** as either secondary or equivalent objective
- Re-establish **air transport systems**
- Gain access to **lost databases and biological data**
- Understand and possibly alter the **timeline**
Rare Material: Halfium
- A newly discovered substance named **Halfium**
- Exhibits an **atomic weight of ~1.5**
- Can **alter or modify existing materials**
- Believed to be a **critical component** for time travel and advanced technological interfaces
Environment and Route
- Destination: **Camp Setawan**, south of the **Cinder Ocean**, near the “Boot”
- The **target location lies off all known maps**
- **Sea travel is dangerous** due to aerial predators
- Safer passage found **through the tree zones on land**
Additional Characters
- **Dr. Holly Marshal and Spot** – Researcher with Triceratops companion
- **Patrocles and Taloes** – Operative with Mega Raptor; both recently received tech implants
- **Lomaton** – SATI agent who’s “gone native”:
- Older, not a commuter - Dino handler - Tests **Patrocles** and **Taloes**' new implant
GM Notes
- Extra items requisitioned by **SATI**
- “**Wielctrically**” – Thought caps can transmit visual/memory data
